Coach in residence: Justice Roe Williams

We are proud and excited for our first ever coach-in-residence, Justice Roe Williams to join Bristol Co-operative Gym from 21 to 23 October 2022.

Justice is a Boston-based activist, poet, fitness coach, educator, and Black man of trans experience. We can’t wait to train and learn together.

We’d love it if you could join us for these donation-based events:

This is an extraordinary opportunity and we’re very excited to learn and train with you ❤️

About Justice

Justice is the founder of Fitness for All Bodies, an educational community that helps fitness professionals and the people they coach to better understand how our bodies are used against us through systems of oppression, and the ways that these systems are reinforced by the fitness industry.

He is also co-editor of the upcoming Penguin Random House anthology ‘Deconstructing the Fitness-Industrial Complex: How to Resist, Disrupt, and Reclaim what it Means to Be Fit in American Culture‘.

Sessions with Justice

Open Gym

Friday 21st October
18:00-20:00

This will be a self-led social lifting session. A chance to meet Justice and all enjoy moving together.

Inclusive and Anti-Oppressive Coaches Meet-up

Saturday 22nd October
15:00-16:45

An informal opportunity for coaches and bodyworkers in Bristol to connect and support each other in our efforts to share the power of exercise with more people.

Queer Gym Pop-up

Saturday 22nd October
17:00-18:45

The first of Justice’s iconic Queer Gym Pop-ups to happen outside of the US. We are particularly keen to welcome those whose bodies are marginalised by the current dominant fitness culture.

Filming

Justice will be accompanied by the filmmaker Katie Schiller, who will be filming the events as part of her documentary about his work, Just Justice.

“The film aims to serve as an exploration of power and privilege, the personal and the political, and the promise of fitness culture today when we take it out of the gym and into the world.”

Anyone attending these events will be asked to sign an Appearance Release form.
